I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor in private practice offering counselling and psychotherapy in a quiet and confidential setting not far from Oxford City. I am fully acredited and I work in accordance to the ethical guidelines of UPCA and UKCP. I offer both long and short-term therapy. Sessions are 50 minutes long and may take place once or twice a week. Most of my appointments are in the daytime. Below is a brief description of what you might expect in therapy; please refer to the Oxfordshire Counselling Directory and to websites of the organisations listed above for any further information.
Aims of therapy
All psychodynamic talking therapies derive from the psychoanalytic method devised by Sigmund Freud, and their aim is fundamentally the same; to help anyone experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties to come to a better understanding of themselves with the help of the therapist, and within the therapeutic relationship. Linking present and past experiences and relationships may give insights into current difficulties and areas of conflict or distress. This in turn may lead to feeling better able to manage those difficulties and ultimately to change and greater internal equilibrium.
